Free Gardening Workshops at Swindon Garden Centre

Are you a gardening enthusiast in Swindon? Dobbies’ Swindon store has a delightful treat for you this August! In celebration of National Allotment Week, Dobbies is offering a series of free Grow How gardening workshops designed to help both seasoned allotment pros and newbies achieve blooming plots.

These hands-on training sessions will be held on the first Saturday of the month, and then every Wednesday in August at 10.30am and 3.30pm. The workshops are tailored to equip you with essential knowledge on late-summer crop selection for a healthy harvest, pruning techniques for summer fruits to maximise yield, and effective watering techniques. These skills will also prepare allotment holders for any upcoming holidays, ensuring their plots remain in top condition even in their absence.

But that’s not all! During August, guests at Dobbies’ Swindon store will have the opportunity to donate to the Stroke Association in honour of National Allotment Week, which runs from August 12 to 18. Dobbies has been a proud supporter of the Stroke Association for several years, recognising the positive influence gardening can have on both the physical and emotional recovery of stroke survivors. The charity supports various groups with allotments around the UK, making this partnership even more meaningful.

Nigel Lawton, Dobbies’ plant buyer, shared his enthusiasm: “Growing your own produce is something that we’re really passionate about at Dobbies. It is also growing in popularity, as many gardeners recognise the benefits of growing fresh produce in both the taste and the positive impact it can have on physical and mental health.”

Saul Heselden, head of corporate partnerships at the Stroke Association, added: “Recovering from a stroke can bring lots of challenges, but finding joy in the simple pleasures of nature can make a real difference. We’re incredibly grateful to Dobbies for their support through the Grow How workshops.”

Additionally, Dobbies sponsors the Stroke Association’s Strength in Bloom virtual garden, offering a chance to commemorate affected individuals.

So, why not roll up your sleeves, get your hands dirty, and join Dobbies’ Swindon store this August? Learn valuable skills, support a great cause, and discover how allotments can benefit your wellbeing.
