Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Harry Potter right here in Swindon! Libby’s World of Wizardry Cafe and Gift Shop, a magical new venture by the owners of Gorse Hill Tea Rooms, has officially opened its doors on Cricklade Road. This isn’t just a cafe, it’s a destination for Potterheads, offering a captivating experience that transports you straight into J.K. Rowling’s beloved universe.
The grand opening on February 3rd was a resounding success, with over 200 visitors stepping into the wizarding world. Stephen John Whatley and his wife Elizabeth, the masterminds behind this magical venture, were thrilled with the response. “Our biggest seller was our own brew butterscotch beer enjoyed by mostly adults who sat down in the cafe area drinking the butterscotch beer and chatting about their love for Harry Potter,” Stephen shared.
The cafe isn’t just about the food and drink, though. It’s a treasure trove of official Harry Potter merchandise, and Elizabeth’s Harry Potter Lego models are on display for all to admire. Interactive photo opportunities abound, from posing next to a Platform 9 3/4 trolley complete with Hedwig the Owl, to donating a sock to a life-size Dobby the House Elf model.
Stephen and Elizabeth initially tested the waters with a pop-up store during the Christmas period. The response was so positive, they decided to make the magic permanent. Tired of travelling to London and Oxford for their Harry Potter fix, they wanted to make Swindon a go-to destination for fellow fans.
The cafe, the first of its kind in Wiltshire, offers free parking and free entry to the Lego display walkthrough spaces and photo areas. They also plan to launch private wizard and witch-themed birthday party packages soon. Open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday, this magical cafe is ready to welcome all Potterheads. So, grab your wand and join the magic at Libby’s World of Wizardry Cafe and Gift Shop.
